SCHOOL FAMILY TUITION SUPPORT GUARANTEES We seek to ensure that funds are available to all parishioner school families facing extraordinary financial situations, and making it very clear to all school families that we will make it through this time together and that these funds are available. This means ensuring all parishioners know about the "Angels" program that enables parishioners to help supplement tuition payments for school families in need, as coordinated by the school and tuition office. MARTHA ROOM The MARTHA Room will be the "heart" of MARTHA and will open in February 2009 in what was previously "Meeting Room 2" as you enter the Cafeteria on the lower level of the Community Center. It is a community gathering, reading, talking, resource space that is part library, part computer lab for resumes, job searches, and more, part mini-classroom, and part warm gathering space. It will be staffed by parish volunteers and open as much as possible during the week for parishioner use during the day, before and after meetings and functions, and before and after Masses on the weekends. In addition, we will schedule and host workshops in topics like basic computer & Internet use, touching up your resume, job interview skills, where to find help with financial needs, etc. If you are interested in volunteering to work in the MARTHA Room or have books or resources or knowledge to share, please let us know. SWAP IT Starting this spring, we will host a monthly "Swap Meet" serving as a forum for us as parishioners ヨ and for our friends and family ヨ to bring, swap, and take the things we no longer need for things that we can use. We seek to break the cycle of Buying, Purchasing, and Consumerism, and reduce and recycle the resources available within our parish family. SHARE IT Share It will be an open and ongoing forum ヨ both physical and electronic ヨ allowing parishioners who are out of work or in need of cash to offer their skills and talents, and matching them with parishioners who need specific services. Imagine out of work craftsmen and tradesmen being listed and available to contact to perform needed work at your home or business. Imagine parishioners at home during the day being available to babysit while you go on a job interview. Imagine parishioners who can cook meals providing them to those who need them. Imagine all of this traded within our own parish economy. We'd love to hear about what you need or what you can offer and add it to a Directory that we will print and have at the entrances to the church and in the MARTHA Room each week. THINK MARTHA "Think MARTHA" is a small joint committee made up of members of all three key parish councils: pastoral council, finance council, and school board, who will meet quarterly to brainstorm new ways our parish can "Think MARTHA" with input coming from and flowing back to the key parish councils. LIFECYCLE DATABASE We will develop a database of all members of all families in the parish ヨ vital statistics (as already included in Servant Keeper) as well as skills, talents, and additional information that would be useful in facilitating "matchmaking" of gifts and needs. |
